Animals nearby.
You will undoubtedly encounter many bird watchers at the bird lake "Starrevaart",
as this is an excellent area for many birds, but you can also take a nice walk here.
Pictures taken during a walk around the Zoetermeer lake ??
A little rain at the start of the walk, but then it was dry. You can spot quite a few animals here if you are lucky.
In this area there are a lot of waterfowl (ducks, grebe, coot, several geese, seagulls, heron)
I saw a pheasant, butterflies in the #prielenbos and a stork on the pasture.
Lentevreugd is a nature reserve of 100 hectares near Wassenaar ??,
managed by Staatsbosbeheer and part of the Hollands Duin.
This piece of land is grazed by a herd Scottish Highlanders and Koniks.
This is a horse breed that arose from attempts to breed back the ancient horse.
Konik is Polish and means little horse.
The Koniks were added in 2006 to get some variation in the grazing.
The cowhide colors beautifully on this sunny day.
The leader of the Koniks indicated that I had better walk around them. (Animals do not care about hiking trails)
Although not the sunniest weather, It was a good day for water sports enthusiasts.
I was able to take a nice walk and spotted many animals, such as a falcon,
low-flying swallows, a pheasant and a few people who had to go out for their dogs.
National Park ?? Meijendel is an extensive wetland dune and nature area west of southern
Wassenaar and north of The Hague. It is also a water extraction area and is managed by
the Dunea water company. I have traversed this area several times and it's always
a nice walk to the beach. Meijendel's has plenty to offer and see.
National Park ?? 'de Maasduinen'
The 'Zwart Water' is a varied area around the Venkoelen, an old Meander. It consists of moist and dry forest types, grassland and small heather remnants.
The following pictures show the views during this route (follow the white post route.).
The trees always evoke a different feeling.
"National Park ?? 'de Maasduinen'
This is one of the three national parks in the province North Limburg.
It is a forest and heather area, located on an elongated sand ridge
between the Maas and the German border.
On this nice cloudy summer day I opted for the 5km walk along
the fens and followed the white posts. During this walk you can read more about the history.
I always like how the sun shines through the branches.
The last part of the route you walk along the Maas.
At the end of the route I saw a squirrel jump from branch to branch.
For me a nice ending to this walk.
